Start of Mass. Homeowner Oil Heating System Upgrade Law has been Delayed The effective date of the new state Homeowner Oil Heating System Upgrade and Insurance Law (installation of an Oil line sleeve or oil safety valve) has been delayed until September 30, 2011. The new law, originally set to become effective July 1, 2010, has been delayed and will become effective on September 30, 2011, giving homeowners fifteen additional months to comply. Read more>

New Smoke Detector Regulations A new regulation regarding the installation and maintenance of smoke detectors went into effect April 5, 2010. These new regulations were enacted by the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services and will apply to single and multi-family homes built or most recently substantially altered prior to Jan. 1, 1975 and sold on or after April 5, 2010. Homes built or substantially altered on or after Jan. 1, 1975 are governed by the State Building Code, which already imposes the same requirements & restrictions.

September 8: Professional Standards Course with Code of Ethics 9:00 am - 3:00 pm at NEAR with Kathy Roosa and Linda Kody. Learn about the procedures of ethics and arbitration hearings. October 1: Fundraiser for Healing for Jody Marchand On February 1, 2010, long-time NEAR Affiliate Member Jody Marchand suffered a horrific family tragedy that resulted in the loss of her daughter and husband, and her being shot and spending the past several months in rehabilitation. Jody has always been there to help NEAR, participating on countless committees and attending events, and she needs our help now! Please join us on Friday, October 1, 2010 from 6-10 pm at the Chelmsford Radisson to raise money for Jody to help with her countless medical expenses and also to help heal her heart and her spirit! We will have food, music, fun, raffles, prizes, and more! Tickets are only $10 and are available at the NEAR office and at The Owl Diner in Lowell, as well as from our volunteers.
